Xerox Colorqube 8900 – Pros and Cons
Xerox Colorqube 8900 – A Candid Review
If you are thinking about purchasing a Xerox Colorqube 8900 solid ink copier, you are about to buy a copier that is an amazing value for the money. Like any product on the market, there are strengths and weaknesses with this copier and it is good to know what you are buying before you run out and spend the $4,995 for this copier.
The Xerox Colorqube 8900 is fast. Don’t let the spec sheet fool you though… When you see the 40+ pages per minute, there are some things that you should be aware of.
- Warm up takes a while if the copier is cold (hasn’t been used for a few hours). If you are the kind of office that goes long periods of time between jobs and then needs what you print immediately, the WorkCentre 6400 may be a better fit for you.
- Most users do not like the color quality on the fastest setting and choose to default to the slower setting. We believe on this unit it’ll be about 25 pages per minute.
If you do a lot of printing where there is a small logo or a link in color, this is where this copier shines. With the 3 tiered billing system, the Colorqube 8900 will charge a black and white print charge when a small amount of color is used. Even if you are full color, you’ll likely be under $.08 per page. COlor costs is where this copier shines and saves clients a ton of money.
Scanning has drastically improved over the Phaser 8860MFP. With the color touchscreen interface, the unit will actually work with systems like Windows 7 64 bit or Server 2007 – or any 64 bit system. We has customers who upgraded their operating system and their Phaser 8560MFP or their Phaser 8860MFP could no longer scan. This new copier solves that issue.
Finally, there is a weird quirk with this copier. If you do a lot of 2 sided to 2 sided copies, the scanning mechanism requires the paper to go through the feeder twice as there is a single scanner. For 90% of customers who don’t duplex like they should be doing, they won’t notice this. For the other 10% – this might be a nuisance.
