To people who know the Phaser product line well, this is going to seem like an odd post. Especially given the fact that one of these printers do tabloid sized printing (Phaser 7760) while the other one does only letter/legal (
Phaser 8860).
Anyway, Ryan from a DVD and CD production wanted to check both the wax printer first and found (to my surprise) the solid ink printer wouldn’t suffice. Why? There were several small issues. 1) The wax would bleed through the paper if the DVD was left on a dashboard in the hot sun for a day or 2. 2) The color changes some in that same situation. 3) The shadowed text was a bit pixelated. These were his objections and when he went to the Phaser 7760, he felt that was the best laser image he’s seen (short of the big presses) and he went ahead and bought the 7760.
This reminded me of the importance of checking out a printer before buying. What my eyes see may not be what your eyes see. Your specifications may be more loose or stringent than my own. This is why print samples should be looked at before purchasing a color printer. Basically we saved Ryan and I the headache of trying to return one printer because of some extra work we did qualifying what his needs and expectations were. Try to use this site for information purposes, a starting point… you should always look at your samples done on the printer you are interested in before purchasing!
